Closing Statement:
I chose this internship because of the opportunities. I thought this would be a good experience to see how it is like to work in an office or working environment with people. Since marketing and business is the major I’ve set my mind of for the foreseeable future and this internship has proved to be an extremely valuable step towards my vision. As well as, communicating with customers and unlocking the security system they have phones. I am very thankful of my peers and boss for helping me throughout the five weeks I was there. It was difficult and I needed a lot of guidance while I was there but eventually I was able to finish my job as well as perfecting it. Before I interned here, I felt like I wasn’t going to learn much but I was wrong. I had to take upon the responsibilities such as reading, sorting, and responding to customers concerns and questions regarding to phone issues. I went through a long learning process everyday. Overall, I thought this internship was a wonderful experience it and it proved to me that it is difficult to start a business. It also showed me that I don’t really like the business and marketing field but I enjoy socializing and helping with customer service. Hours: 9:00am-3:30pm (6 1/2 per day)

DAY 1: 10/1/2016 (6 1/2hrs)- For the first day, I learned how to secure the phones on the display counter. I was actually really shocked how difficult it was to secure the phones because of the security system is very sensitive when it goes off. It took me awhile to get the phone to stay on the surface. I also learned how to open and close the shop.
DAY 2: 10/8/2016 (6 1/2hrs) - For the second day, I started off opening the stores and securing all the phones. It was still very difficult for me to do and I needed help from my partners. But I learned the pricing of the phones and what terms to use when we are identifying how fast the phone is versus others. As well as why some phones cost more than others like the ram, gigabytes, etc. DAY 3: 10/15/2016 (6 1/2hrs) - For the third day, like always, I secure the phone and I get better doing it. I got to work with customers instead of sitting back. Before doing that, I had to learn how to use the computer system to input their monthly payments and cash register but only cash. DAY 4: 10/22/2016 (6 1/2hrs) - For the fourth day, I had to learn more about the computer system like assisting people with setting up a new phone plan and adding new lines to their plan. I thought it was really hard because we had to enter in tons of numbers and fill out applications. I found out activating an iPhone and Android requires a different process because they are from different companies. This time I learned how to accept credit and debit cards at the cash register. DAY 5: 10/29/2016 (6 1/2hrs) - On the fifth day, which is my last day. The store had to go through a remodeling process so we had to clear out everything at the shop. We found documents that were from 1960 and tons of old accessories for phones from awhile back. We had to shred tons of papers as well is taking the hooks down for the phones. While we were cleaning out the store, we still helped with customers. |
Closing Report:
I’d like to thank my peers and boss for teaching me not only how a business starts or how to open up a store that is under a company but all of the techniques that is useful in the future. Things I never thought of that would benefit me as an individual. As technology grows, especially with our “mini computers” or cell phones. I’ve gained a lot of knowledge and see why phones are priced different from others.
Before I interned here, I felt like I wasn’t going to learn much but I was wrong. I had to take upon the responsibilities such as reading, sorting, and responding to customers concerns and questions regarding to phone issues. On the first day, I got the opportunity to open and close the store.
The first task I had to accomplish was securing the phones on the display counter. I was flattered from how easy the task seemed but I was wrong, it was really difficult to secure it. It was very sensitive and ear wrecking when the alarm went off. It took a lot of practice to get used to the loud beeping noise and realizing how annoying it is when people trigger the alarm. Honestly, people like me that doesn’t work with tools or enjoy working with putting things together with screws was difficult. I had trouble screwing the device in without getting help from my partner. He had to hold the phone still for me to screw it in, if the phone moves from the scanner the security alarm would go off. This is when I realized, this is just the beginning.
For my “official” first day of interning there, I opened the shop with my boss and begun with securing the phones. Even though I struggled with it, I was forced to do it and pray I will improve. I had to ask for help from my peers but when I got it done, it was when the fun starts. I got to learn how the phones were priced, as well as the accessories. I got to learn terms salesman or saleswoman would say to convince a customer to buy their product. There were phone prices and plans I had to remember, but that wasn’t all. I had to learn why some phones cost more than others. It was a great experience for me to learn because nowadays people buy phones based on the popularity than the usage or how it may benefit you. And… these were just the basics..
Day by day, I improve at securing the phones and learning new techniques to serve customer service. I eventually got to learn how to use the computer system to input monthly payments, setting up a new phone plan, adding lines and how to use the cash register. Having to go through documents as late as 1960s and cleaning up the filing drawers were a hassle. It was annoying and showed me how businessmen stresses out when it comes to filing paperwork and why they have an assistant doing it for them.
